People-First Tourism Analytics Dashboard 2nd Quarter 2015
Interest in P1T is on the rise: 2015 Second Quarter Analytics
In this age of information, enterprises routinely seek to
obtain competitive advantages through interpretation of big data analysis.
Analytic metrics and finding correlations within these data, which provide
insight for decision making, takes a skill set not inherent in many smaller
organizations. Accordingly, People-First Tourism continuously records and
reports data about the performance of project participants to understand their
path to success. Additionally, these aggregate quarterly reports are designed
to share key data with P1T micro-entrepreneurs and with their empowerment
agents who support them in an attempt to give these micro-entrepreneurs a
competitive edge in their respective markets.
One of the ways this project “injects” data into the decision
making process is by posting these aggregate quarterly reports. These P1T
Dashboard Analytics reports contain a digest of data about the overall reach of
the project, as well the performance of the most visited micro-entrepreneurs. Additionally,
the report includes data about the reach of the project’s scholarship to the
general public through select social media tools – e.g., this web blog.
Here is most recent report, P1T Dashboard Analytics
Report for 2nd
Quarter of 2015 (see inset below). The report for the 3rd Quarter
of 2015 will be appearing in an October posting on this blog.
Overall, this report revealed that visitation to the www.peoplefirsttourism.com web
marketplace has increased over the previous three months of 2015. As in
previous quarters, most of these visitors were new visits to the site. This increasing
trend has held for the past two quarters. The majority of visitors were from
the USA, and they found the P1T website through searches for the term
People-First Tourism or close derivations. Many of our visitors come directed
from the web sites of tourism promotion partners like visitraleigh.com, www.visitpittsboro.com, www.visitmadisoncounty.com, www.visitnc.com, and www.goncfun.com. Another important source of
visitors is the websites of partner organizations like the NC Tourism Extension
[tourism.ces.ncsu.edu] and NC
State’s CSLEPS [csleps.dasa.ncsu.edu/asb/spring/costa-rica].
The report also features the ten most visited locations of micro-entrepreneurs,
which like in the 1st Quarter 2015, the top two were located in Wake
County and Chatham County, NC.
While the primary purpose of these reports is to enable
data-driven business decisions through discussions with empowerment agents and
micro-entrepreneurs, we also use these reports to ensure transparency in our
efforts to drive academic discussions and research on micro-entrepreneurial
business analytics. Therefore, we invite the public and the academic community
to comment and to advise us on ways to improve this aspect of the People-First
Tourism project.
